Sandra Kay Rice Scheuermann, daughter of Ruby and Bill Haynes and Don Rice, was born June 30, 1954, in Jefferson. Sandy died August 18, 2019, at her home in Scranton, Iowa with her family by her side. She was 65 years old.
Sandy grew up in Jefferson and graduated from Jefferson High School. She had a love for learning and over the years continued her education by taking online classes with Purdue University Global and was close to finishing up her bachelor’s degree before she became ill.
In 1977, Sandy was united in marriage to Gary Scheuermann at the United Methodist Church in Bagley. They raised their family in Bagley before moving to Scranton, where they continue to live. Sandy worked different jobs over the years, but her favorite was working with Geanna and Dick Clem with Iowa Benefits in Ames and later with Bob Powers at Paradigm Benefits.
Sandy loved to go camping, going to races, or watching her grandchildren compete. She also loved being involved with her great-grandchildren. Much of her time was spent around the kitchen table visiting with family and friends.
Sandy was preceded in death by her son Terry Scheuermann; her parents Ruby and Bill Haynes; father Don Rice; and sisters Connie Garcia and Vickie Rice.
She is survived by her husband Gary Scheuermann of Scranton; her children Tim (Denise) Scheuermann of Halbur, Dan (Kathy) Scheuermann of Jefferson, Matt Scheuermann of Carroll, Tammy (Brian) Fagen of Carroll, Rod (Laura) Scheuermann of Scranton, and Tracey Scheuermann of Gaston, SC; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Rick (Debbie) Rice of Florence, SC, and Jim Rice of Scranton,; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends
Funeral services for Sandy Scheuermann, 65, of Scranton were held Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 11 am at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson. Interment was at Franklin Township Cemetery at Cooper.
